Beneficial spring water
Zaplana has three special springs on its northern and southern sides, one of which is the so-called Roman well. The energy in the water from these springs has a pronounced and beneficial effect on the gastrointestinal tract. Drinking this water gives our body strength, which helps to relieve digestive problems.
When placing objects in space, specially trained individuals in ancient times read the strong energy spots in nature. These points were connected in the form of a triangle called “Trochan”. At Zaplana, a specially selected pebble is placed across the central triangular space at each corner. The first is next to an old lime tree and is of an earth energy character. The energy of the second point on the north-west side has an accentuated effect on the 4th, 6th and 7th chakras of our energy body. The third point is astral, the connection between heaven, earth and the lower world. It has an accentuated effect on the 4th and 7th chakras. When all three points are energetically connected to each other, a positive energy field is created in the triangle space, creating the conditions for a pleasant experience and a great feeling of well-being for guests.
Anyone who tries native Slovenian apple and pear varieties, or homemade apple juice, will be happy to return to the local area again and again. And not just for the fruit. It is a pleasure to learn how pruning and grafting of fruit trees is carried out, with a presentation of old and traditional fruit tree varieties. You can take part in the preparation of dried fruits, such as the typical apple crisp or dried pears. See also how walnuts are dried, because the typical Slovenian potica is made from dried walnuts.
Dragons and dragon hatchlings – human fish – have been around since time immemorial, and children will learn about their role and importance in a playful way. When the wind comes over the peaks, it’s time to fly your kite, because right at the top of Zaplana is a soft green grassy plain called the Kite Saddle, so catch the wind and let the wind fly your kite. Do you know which kite will fly the highest?
Birdwatching - bird photography
Zaplana is home to a wide variety of birds, such as the peewit, woodpecker, clover, kite, kestrel, kestrel, cuckoo . . . You will see birds of prey on large T-posts, high in the sky, or in the treetops during your walk. Catch them on your camera lens and admire their distinctive sounds and colours. The many clay and wooden bird nest boxes are particularly lively in spring, when the birds are mating. According to folk tradition, birds marry on Gregór’s Day (12 March), a holiday associated with lovers.
You can cycle along forest trains and roads. There are many climbs and descents on vast hills with spectacular views. Longer hikes can take you on a tour of the Ljubljana Marshes. For a short trip, the tower on Planina above Vrhnika is very suitable. There are also two circular cycling routes, K1 and K2, which run through Zaplana and are suitable for experienced tourist cyclists, the first one is 31 km long and the second one is 22 km long, each taking about one and a half hours of cycling. From Brezovica to Logatec, the L034 is a moderately demanding cycle route suitable for mountain bikes, 28 km long and taking approximately 1 to 2 hours.
When the first snow falls, Zaplana transforms into a quiet winter idyll. The peaks are shrouded in white, and the winter sun beckons you out even on cold days. Head up to the Dragon’s Saddle and from there descend the ridge, slopes or forest paths. Every year, an attractive traditional skiing trip takes place from the Dragon’s Saddle through the forest to the Ložana Valley. Getting active in the fresh air is sure to invigorate you.
Fellowship by the dragon hearth
People have always gathered around the fire to tell stories and enjoy nature’s bounty. Enjoy a fireside gathering under the homestead’s large old linden tree, a typical Slovenian tree. Let your imagination run wild and listen to ancient tales of the Aedi, Romans and dragons, while enjoying freshly baked snacks. You may also be inspired by Ivan Cankar, the greatest Slovenian writer, who was born in Vrhnika, not far from here.
How do peasant children live?
Spend a carefree holiday with your children in the middle of nature. Children will get to know what life is like in the middle of nature – they can go for a ride on the hill or swing on the tree swings, see what vegetables grow in the garden, what apples ripen on a nearby tree, how cottage cheese is made, how chestnuts, potatoes and bread are baked. You might also meet your neighbours’ farm animals on your walk, who provide fresh eggs, whole milk, cottage cheese, butter, etc.
When we think of a swing, we remember the playful days of childhood. Playful swinging is one of the most beautiful and enjoyable games for children, because it makes them happy, relaxed and calm. At Zaplana, children can swing freely on tree swings, just like the ones children have always known, which swing in all directions. Look around the trees, find your swing and enjoy.
Equip yourself for walking in natur
In nature, you will encounter a wide variety of animals and plants. Some of them are not very friendly to humans, such as ticks, so always dress and dress appropriately. Wear light clothes in light colours, tuck your trousers into your shoes, and always check yourself carefully and shower after a walk.
So the most important thing is tick prevention. Vaccination, protective equipment, appropriate clothing and footwear, self-examination . . If a tick catches us by surprise despite prevention, we need to get rid of it as soon as possible. Remove a tick as soon as it is seen on the skin. If it is removed within 17 hours, no infection will occur, even if the tick is infected. The tick is removed using tweezers or by grasping it with your fingers and turning it anticlockwise. Do not remove the tick with alcohol, oil or other solvents, as this greatly increases the chance of contracting a tick-borne disease.
